Very common species in Australia. Unlike many other jellyfish that drift, it actively swims rhythmically, allowing it to fight weak estuarine currents.

Sting symptoms

Moderately stinging. Causes tingling and slight redness.

Identification

Very thick dome-shaped umbrella. Its color varies from white to bright blue, or even brown, depending on the symbiotic algae it hosts. It has no tentacles on the edges, but 8 large textured oral arms under the dome.

Estuaries and shallow coastal waters.
